Why Choose Me

 

Do I have the necessary technical knowledge?

 

I have an honours degree in Business from the University of Cape Town, majoring in Finance and Accounting. So that gives me the solid grounding in the theory of accounting needed to be a good bookkeeper. I am now also certified by QuickBooks as an Advanced Pro Advisor for their on line accounting systems.

 

And what about practical experience?

 

I initially  worked for several large multinational companies – Ford, BMW and Siemens. I then  changed gear and ran my own small business for some twenty five years.

 

For all of that time I used the Quickbooks accounting system to produce management accounts for myself and statutory accounts for the external accountant to submit to the taxman. So that gave me direct hand on experience of a digital accounting system which is highly relevant to my current bookkeeping practice. The business was developed and sold to a large competitor in 2018.

 

So in search of an occupation which I can do from my home, I set up Check and Balance Bookkeeping Services. I aim to help small businesses to get and keep their books in order. The homeworking model works well, Quickbooks accounts are on line, documents too can be shared online or simply posted and Zoom is great for face to face meetings.

 

And what about support?

 

As a bookkeeper I need the support of a certified accountant and I have formed a close working relationship with Rosie Morris of R Liddell and Co, an established local accountancy practice. I help Rosie with bookkeeping for her clients, and she in turn advises me on the tax matters of my clients and assists with submissions of returns to Companies House and HMRC.

 

So it’s a small and simple practice and it works well, as can be seen from the favourable reviews I have received. Please contact me if you would like to see if we could work well together.
